What to expect during an ADHD evaluation

We start with a quick call to talk through your concerns. You tell me what’s going on, I’ll answer your questions, and we’ll decide if an ADHD evaluation makes sense.

If we decide to move forward, we meet in person to do a few things.
You’ll complete some forms and paperwork
We’ll review your history and current concerns
I’ll walk through walk you through the rest of the process, and we’ll pick a date and time for the evaluation
You identify people who can offer perspective, like parents, partners, or friends

You come to my office for 2-3 hours of:
An in-depth interview
Standardized ADHD questionnaires
Objective neuropsychological testing to measure executive functioning
Afterward, I’ll send out some additional questionnaires for you and a couple other people to complete at home.

I’ll take a couple of weeks to:
Score and interpret the results
Bring all the information together, including from the other people
Write a detailed report that includes any diagnosis and tailored recommendations

We meet one more time to go over the results and report together:
I explain the results in plain English
We talk through recommendations and next steps
You leave with answers, a finalized report, and a clearer path forward

ADHD impacts something called executive functioning—our brain’s management system. During the evaluation, I assess things like:
Focus and sustained attention
Impulsivity
Working memory

Task intiation and follow-through
Emotional regulation
We also explore your life history, since ADHD usually starts in childhood. I ask what school was like for you, how things have changed over time, and how symptoms show up for you now.

The main testing session happen in my office in Columbia, Missouri. We can meet remotely if you are located in another part of the country. There are also some parts that you do from home, like completing questionnaires I send you.

Once the testing is done and I’ve gotten information from everyone (the people filling out questionnaires, therapists, or your primary doctor), I spend about 2 weeks reviewing the data and writing the report. Then we meet for the feedback session.

Absolutely. Depending on the results of the evaluation, you can use the report I give you to request academic or work accommodations or discuss medication options with a medical doctor.

I charge a flat fee of $1000, broken into three parts:
Initial Consultation - $200
Testing Day - $600
Feedback Session - $200
No hidden fees. No billing surprises. We can also talk more if we need to make a different payment plan.

I’m out-of-network, which means:
You pay for the evaluation out of pocket
I can give you a superbill (detailed invoice) after the process is complete
You can submit the superbill to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement
Make sure to check with your insurance provider ahead of time—reimbursement rates vary.
